Thinking Thursday: On Letting Go

I’ve found myself spread really thin lately.  I always say that multitasking is one of my many strengths, but it turns out, there is a limit to what I can do effectively.  Just as we all do, I have many different rolls to play: mother, daughter, friend, employee, boss, lover, sister, and the list goes on.  I can do 3 of them pretty well; anymore that that and I am a mess.

So, it should come as no surprise to you that I haven’t been spending much time on me lately.  However, my boss has no complaints and my daughter still gives me a passing grade.

The rest of my responsibilities have been slipping… I have a pile of laundry to put away that has been growing for 3 weeks.  The dry cleaning hasn’t been picked up in 2 weeks.  And, well, MFH deserves some more focused time.

Even more troubling to me is that I have a problem staying focused in the moment.  When at work I am thinking about mommy things and when spending time at home I seem to remember all the things that I forgot to do at work.  I need to find a way to reverse this trend.

I do a satisfactory job of keeping notes to remind myself of things to do later.  And, I do have a good calendar that sends reminders and alerts.  I just have difficulty getting it all done in the time allotted; (Although there would never really be enough time with the princess).

I am looking for ways to get better at this.  Let me know how you get it all done.

My name is Mom. I live in Fairy Tale Land with a Pirate, a Fairy and the Princess. My job duties include: head cook, Chief Executive of Laundry Operations, Vacuum Maintenance Engineer, Chief of Picking up Random objects and Primary Sherpa. I spend a great deal of time carrying sparkly, sequined, glitter covered tutus and miscellaneous dance shoes for the Princess. I long for moments of quiet and a mani/pedi. Trying to strike a balance between being a grown up and being a good mom. FairyTaleMom tagged this post with: , , Read 52 articles by

  1. Just like your title says…I let it go. I narrow my responsibilities down to as teeny tiny of a list as I can. Honestly, nothing much beyond happy person, wife and mama matter to me.

I see so many people stressing because they volunteered to be in so many stressful situations. I just don’t raise my hand.

It’s a pretty selfish solution, but when it comes to taking care of yourself…well, that’s a good time to be selfish. 🙂

Sarah, I wish my employer felt the same.. I am struggling to find balance. Also, I wish that my to do list was more in line with my priorities. Glad to know someone has it figured out. That means there is hope for me 🙂
