Mom Fail Friday: The One Where I Made My Son Scream Like A Little Girl

We were having a great time at the park. The kiddos and I had picked up Daddy on his lunch break and headed to a nearby park for a picnic & some playtime.

The swings were flying up to the clouds, the slides were sending children swooshing down their steep ramps, and the monkey bars were hosting many little dangling bodies.

As my oldest dashed from the swings to the slide, my husband slipped a little leaf down the back of his shirt and for some reason I felt the need to say “Oh! Spider!”

This is when our Norman Rockwell scene turned to one from Nightmare on Elm Street. My son, apparently deathly afraid of spiders began running in frantic circles screaming at decibels I thought only Mariah Carey could hit.

I tried to tell him I was joking, it was only a leaf. But he couldn’t hear me over his own screeches.

And then…I laughed. I couldn’t help myself. It was hilarious. I mean I had tears rolling down my cheeks and my sides were splitting from laughing harder than I have since I don’t know when.

Eventually he realized it wasn’t a spider. And boy was he mad! And me? I was still laughing. Laughing so hard, while thinking “Someone punch me in the face, please, because I just cannot stop.”

I felt bad for him because he was so upset. And when the laughing had subsided I tried to lighten his mood, telling him that would have made an awesome Funniest Home Video submission. Even though this is his favorite show, he was still ticked.

He got over it slowly. I’m sure he’s still holding a tiny grudge, and I’m not proud about that.

But honestly? All in all, it was just hilarious.
