Accidentally Green & Healthy (Easy Lunchboxes Review & Giveaway)

Confession time: I am not the most environmentally aware human on the planet. In fact, I generally am an environmentalist of convenience and comfort. I recycle at home because I made it convenient by paying extra for a pick up at home. Sometimes, at work, I’m not as good. I’ve been known to put an aluminum can in the trash. I don’t feel good about it, but I’ve done it none the less. I am good enough to bring my own water bottle and use a ceramic mug when I visit Starbucks.

There are many more things I could be doing for our planet. I want to be better. I’m starting with trash free lunch packing for work and school. This is going to be a big step for me. I buy convenience foods because I am busy, tired and a little lazy. But, thanks to Easy Lunchboxes, it’s going to be a little easier.

We tried them out for a week of dance camp for the princess, and I took them to work with great success. The princess loved packing lunch in the different sized compartments. She cut her “ants on a log” to fit into the smaller size compartment and put fruit into the other. A sandwich fits perfectly into the larger compartment, and she was thrilled.

I made some more grown up lunches and took a salad & soup in a thermos. The thermos fit well in the ample bag sent by Easy Lunchboxes. Now, this has not cured my laziness. I am still not thrilled about packing lunch every night, but I am completely thrilled with the money I’ve saved this week.

I didn’t go out to eat at work (for a savings of about $45) and the princess didn’t need any convenience foods a the grocery store (for a savings of about $15). It looks like we get to see a movie this weekend with our new found entertainment budget. And, I feel good about being more environmentally friendly.

Another unexpected benefit—we accidentally packed really healthy lunches. We didn’t go out of our way to make better choices, it was just a pleasant bi-product of not buying convenience foods.

After a week, I am happy to say that I will gladly continue to use Easy Lunchboxes. They make lunch easy at work and the princess likes choosing her own meals. I can’t wait to use them for school and try some more creative lunch options—grilled chicken salad wraps maybe.
