Digital Detox: AKA Quality Time (Plus Mastermind Games Giveaway)

I am guilty of many, many mom fails. I do almost everything wrong at least once or twice when it comes to parenting. By far, my most egregious error is relying on technology to entertain the princess.

It all started innocently enough. As a single mom, I needed something to occupy her time while I did dishes after dinner. So, I introduced her to my friend Elmo and he took care of business while I did quick chores around the house. This unfortunately led to a habit of turning on the television for entertainment.

As if that weren’t bad enough, Santa brought a hand held video game and an iPod a few years later. Now, I struggle with getting the television turned off on a daily basis. I have recently been successful in occasionally getting her to choose music over the noise of the television, but to me it’s all noise these days.

I am happy to participate this week in Digital Detox Week.

Animal Mastermind TowersThe princess and I recently received a gift from Pressman Games. We love playing Mastermind Animal Tower. This is a great age appropriate thinking game for her to play. Best of all, I like to play too. It’s not one of those kid games that feels like grown up torture (like Chutes and Ladders does).

So, we will be turning off the TV and playing games, putting puzzles together and going to the park. (Please note, I also really dislike the park, but I love listening to her giggle on the swings, so I’ll take the trade off.)

Every time we turn off the noise, I’m always a little nervous about running out of things to do. But, as it turns out, the princess and I enjoy one another’s company. Time always passes way too quickly. We make great memories. And, I usually forget the camera—but, that’s technology, so I’ll have to give myself a pass on that one.

If you’d like to create your own unplugged memories, Pressman games has a gift for you too! They are giving one of our readers Mastermind & Mastermind Towers in celebration of Digital Detox Week. I was provided with Mastermind Towers after meeting Pressman Games at BlogHer, but the opinion is 100% real.

My name is Mom. I live in Fairy Tale Land with a Pirate, a Fairy and the Princess. My job duties include: head cook, Chief Executive of Laundry Operations, Vacuum Maintenance Engineer, Chief of Picking up Random objects and Primary Sherpa. I spend a great deal of time carrying sparkly, sequined, glitter covered tutus and miscellaneous dance shoes for the Princess. I long for moments of quiet and a mani/pedi. Trying to strike a balance between being a grown up and being a good mom. FairyTaleMom tagged this post with: , Read 52 articles by
