On Self-Esteem & Body After Baby (Plus Yummie Tummie Giveaway)

When I was younger, I cursed my too-skinny body. I was teased for my “chicken legs” and wanted nothing more than curves. Then I finally got them, and Sir Mixalot had to go & ruin that for me, too. Thank goodness for the grunge phase—it was easy to hide my 36x24x36 in baggy, flannel shirts.

It’s been 15 years, 3 kids and 2 weddings with 1 fabulous hubby since those high school days, and I don’t feel any better about my body. There’s the “silver” hair, the “laugh lines” and the extra pounds. But, it’s so much more than that. Sure, it’s beyond time to lose the rest of the “baby” weight, but my body will never be the same anyway.

The hips that sit just a little wider than I’d like. The boobs that don’t quite sit where they used to. The stretch marks I will forever hide from the daylight. I wish I could be one of those women who view it all as a badge of honor. Afterall, those hips birthed 3 kids. Those boobs nursed for more than 2 years. And, those stretch marks represent the growth of each child.

I earned them—but I don’t want them.

And, I’m not about to show them off. I didn’t take pregnancy pictures. I didn’t allow photos during labor. And, I don’t like what’s left of my tummy showing itself now. I have so often hidden it all in baggy sweaters & hoodies. I’ve even noticed flannel button downs are becoming a trend again—but, well, I’m a grownup!

Heathers: YT Creator & Her Biggest Fan

So, Yummie Tummie is my grownup solution. Created by Heather Thomson (who I had the immense pleasure of meeting at BlogHer earlier this year), this shapewear is comfortable, sexy and a huge part of improving my wardrobe, not to mention my self-esteem.

I’ve tried squishing my body into a variety of shapewear brands, but instead of providing the confidence I need to wear something that isn’t 3 sizes too big, they’ve always made me feel worse. Hello, sausage casing. Believe me when I tell you this is like nothing you’ve ever seen before.

Yummie Tummie is soft, cozy and hides the mommy tummy so clothing fits beautifully. Even on me. I now own several styles—the new fall tee is my very favorite—and I covet many more. (I’m looking at you, Chiffon.) The original tank is a closet staple, since I can wear it with anything in my wardrobe.

And, Yummie Tummie wants to give one to one of our readers too! Simply leave a comment here to let me know I’m not alone in this. You can also earn additional entries by:
  • Subscribing to our site by email or RSS
  • Following Yummie Tummie and Miscellaneous Mom on Twitter
  • Writing about this giveaway (blog, forum, public Facebook note)
  • Tweeting about this giveaway: Win a @YummieTummie Original Tank from @MiscMom! http://bit.ly/cSGmLU

For your extra entries to be counted, be sure to leave an additional comment directing us to your entry. Only one additional entry per method (i.e. While multiple tweets are appreciated it, only one will count as a drawing entry.) The contest runs until 9/30 at 11:59pm est. One winner will be notified by email on 10/1 and receive a Yummie Tummie Original Tank. Winner will have 48 hours to contact us or a new winner will be chosen.

I have received a free Yummie Tummie through promotions in the past but with no expectation for a post or positive review. This opinion is 100% real and honest.

I could relate to that. I am now down 72 lbs. In the last 8 months and thinner, by far, than I was even when I got married at 19. That was 14 years ago. I love my legs now, though wish they were longer, but still have the loose skin on the tummy from my 2nd C-Section. Though I am now comfortable wearing a bikini, naked I am very aware of my lower tummy. My hubby has said I could get a tummy tuck if it would make me feel better, but I think I will continue to work on it and wear what I can’t loose as my badge of honor (or have something to hold over my younger daughter’s head and blame her for when she is older).

I have shared this on my facebook– Amanda Roy

  20. Allison says:

Pick me! Pick me! a) I have an extra long tank and love love love it. b) I appreciate how they responded to my feedback about their Runway-style video (I felt like all of the models were super skinny and didn’t represent real women) c) the price point is a little high–but SO worth it! If you don’t win this giveaway–even in this economy, you need to consider getting one. I wear mine a few times a week!
