On Date Night In (Plus Wanchai Ferry Giveaway)

Old School Date Night

Date Night was easier 2 kids ago.

Date night.

It sounds like heaven—and a far off dream. Date night is a safe haven from family chaos, noisy kids and a cluttered life. It reminds that we’re a couple—not just parents. Date night has been both our saving grace and the bane of my existence.

As part of our alphabet dating project, we’ve enjoyed simple dates, elaborate dates and weekend getaways, but they’re few & far between. It’s a complicated mess of careful budgeting, working overtime to get away and splitting the kids between numerous family & friends. Which is why we haven’t been on a date in 6 months!

Just Married, Again

Just Married, Again

The fact that we still like one another after all this time says we’re finally on the right track with our marriage, but I’d still like a date with the hubby.

But, where do you find the time? The money? The babysitter?

When we have none of the above, the instinct is to skip it altogether. Which leaves us feeling like roommates & co-parents—disconnected and distant. Through the last few years, we have determined date night is very necessary for our marital health. So, what’s a girl to do without the resources to go out for a night with the hubby?

Enjoy a night in, instead.

Sure, it’s not the same as strolling hand in hand downtown or spending a weekend in Chicago, but we still have the ability to stop. Breath. And, reconnect. We can tuck the girls into bed at 8pm, shutoff the television and spend a night together. Just focusing on us.

We enjoyed fondue—could we make it at home? We had a nice time dancing—don’t we have music here? One night last year, we spent an evening out in the backyard together—no kids, just a fire pit, s’mores and the love of my life. It was lovely.

Why don’t we do that more often?

We can enjoy a candlelight dinner after the girls are asleep. Turn on the music & dance. Play board games or video games—ooh, I know! We’ll start a dance off with Just Dance 2—it is such a fun game. Honestly, it doesn’t really matter what we do. The point is that we’re together, focusing on one another and shutting out the chaos of the world that tends to drag us apart.

I’m committing right now to adding Date Night In to our calendar!

Who’s with me?

Okay, what if I told you the first date night in could be free?

I was provided with a free Date Night In prize pack from My Blog Spark, including a Wanchai Ferry & Macaroni Grill dinner kit and $25 Visa gift card (which I promptly lost) to facilitate this post, but the opinion is 100% real. I also received Just Dance 2 for free, as part of a sponsored House Party, but the game is pretty much awesome, and I just bought a 2nd copy to give as a gift.

We went and ate at a mexican restaurant named Alejandros. I had a pomegranite martini and a brushetta as well as a carne asada taco and chips. My hubby had chorizo dip and two carne asada tacos. We then went driving past Riner into Floyd to look at Christmas lights. We snuggled as he drove.
