Make Family Dinner Special (Plus Mozaik Designing Spaces Review)

Candlelight Dinner for Five

Candlelight Dinner for Five

The light bulb went out in our dining room the other day. We replaced with the only spare bulb we had on hand, at a much lower wattage. It’s very dim at family dinner right now—at least until I get to the store—and the girls love it! It reminds them of the family candlelight dinners, which we do each year on Valentine’s Day and our anniversary. It’s a fun way to make those nights a little special, even if we don’t have a sitter for a proper date.

Yes, candlelight dinner for five. It’s so romantic.

Sometimes, we’ll light the candles just because—and Lorelai dashes to turn off all the lights. If we dine by candlelight too often, I think it would lose it’s appeal. Yet, I like to find ways to make the everyday something memorable. From creating a taco bar, instead of just serving tacos, to making homemade pizza, instead of ordering in, it’s easy to make an event out of family dinner—something they can look back on fondly when they have their own families.

Mozaik table setting

That’s why I was excited to receive the Mozaik entertainment package from My Blog Spark—it’s super fancy, but it’s not. These are plastic, disposable plates dressed up to look like fine dinnerware. Now, disposable is not usually my thing, which is why the lasting quality of Mozaik appeals to me—you can wash & reuse them. Or not. It’s kinda like the take ‘n toss containers. Wash them over & over again, until it’s just not worth it anymore.

(Then, rinse & recycle them.)

We also have a nice, big platter & serving dishes. This is the sort of thing I like to use for pitch-ins or school functions. If they get left behind, it wasn’t a big deal in the first place. We used it all for the first time at Thanksgiving—mostly because I didn’t have enough matching dishes for everyone at the table. Plus, if all else failed, dinner dishes could be thrown away before I headed out for our Black Friday plan. Luckily, the hubby washed them for me so we’re all set for fancy dinnerware at a random family dinner—it goes great with the fancy table we set everyday.

To make everyday special we all have breakfast together before going our separate ways for the day and then we all make a great effort to get back together for dinner so that we can talk to each other and share what happened during the day.

I make homemade bread or treats… Ok, doesn’t everyone – heck no. People are so busy (me included) that when then know they are getting homemade stuff — they are lined up for dinner!

We make everyday meals special by having a centerpiece on the table: a container of fresh fruit or a pretty plant, for example!
