Kids, Pets, and Epic Messes: Welcome to Summer (Plus a Giveaway!)

Now that the kids are out of school, any semblance of order and cleanliness is completely gone. I’m excited to have them home for family fun, bonding with our upcoming adoption placement, and months of carpool and lunch-packing avoidance.

The completely out-of-control house and sheer volume of messes they make? Not so exciting. We’re just 3 days into this and already the kitchen table is sticky, the foyer is littered with shoes, outdoor toys are everywhere, and there is a mysterious stain on the carpet in the upstairs hallway.

And, if it’s not the kids, it’s the pets! The dog is in and out of the house more, as they drag her to the backyard all day long. The cats are up and down the stairs, struggling to figure out why all these people are suddenly home. The pets are all eating food they shouldn’t, courtesy of leftovers the children leave behind. So, there’s that mess to clean up.

Rug Doctor to the rescue! I’ll be cleaning my carpets this week — and countless times as the summer goes on, I’m sure. When we cleaned all the carpets before our home study, I was amazed (and disgusted) by the massive amount of dirt my Rug Doctor pulled out of the carpets.

Plus, their pet formula did a great job cleaning up after our dog’s first year. Rescues are a bit more work, but they really just need a little extra love and help. Rug Doctor is partnering with ASPCA this year to provide just that. For every purchase of Pet Formula or Urine Eliminator, Rug Doctor will donate $1 to ASPCA, up to $100,000 pledged this year.

The Rug Doctor to the Rescue program launched May 1st with a pet photo contest on Facebook. Finalists will be announced tomorrow, and fans will be able to vote for their favorites through June 18th. Winners will be announced July 1, with the grand prize winner receiving $2,500 cash, an ASPCA grooming brush and toy and a $2,500 donation to the recipient’s ASPCA-affiliated animal shelter of choice.

They’re all so adorable, I don’t know how you’d choose — but I bet even the winners make some epic messes. Thank goodness Rug Doctor has such great tools to clean them up.

You have the chance to win a Rug Doctor prize pack – including a $25 VISA gift card to cover a rental fee! Simply leave a comment here, and tell me about your kids’ and pets’ most epic mess. You can earn additional entries by:

Only one additional entry per method (i.e. While multiple tweets are appreciated it, only one will count as a drawing entry.) The contest runs until 6/12/13 at 11:59pm est. One winner will be notified by email on 6/13/13 and receive a Rug Doctor prize pack, including Rug Doctor’s Urine Eliminator Package (a bottle of Spot & Stain remover, a bottle of Urine Eliminator and a black light), a bottle of the Pet Formula Carpet Cleaner and a $25 Visa gift card for rental. Winner will have 48 hours to claim the prize or a new winner will be chosen.

Last September, I had the opportunity to visit the Rug Doctor factory, learn more about carpet care, and received an actual Rug Doctor as part of a blogger tour. I have not been compensated for this post and all opinions are 100% mine.

My kid’s epic mess was when they knocked a juice container out of the fridge and the top popped off, getting juice every where.

Most Epic? Not really a Rug Doctor scene, but mine is when the kitten brought down the Christmas tree. What a mess! Broken ornaments, presents needing re-wrapped (the original paper got torn), etc. She was awfully lucky she was so cute!
