I’ve been trying all week to come up with the words to start blogging about last week’s vacation. We were invited back to Cape Ann — this time to stay in the incredibly lovely and photogenic Rockport, Massachusetts. It was in the same area, but a different vacation, and I couldn’t wait to take the boy on his first trip to the ocean.
For last year’s visit, we stayed in Gloucester — a fun and fabulous harbor town where we enjoyed whale watching, sailing, and a little time at the beach. My favorite moment captured on camera was this lovely sunset night at the beach.
This year’s trip was a little different. Rockport is quieter (and so lovely!), our time in Essex was full of wonder and history, and a more low key schedule allowed our adjusting family plenty of opportunities to explore, relax, and bond. We spent more time on more beaches and ended up right back at Good Harbor Beach to say goodbye to the ocean at sunset, just before our journey home.
And then THIS happened.
Both photos were captured from afar as I watched my kids play in the surf. The first was taken on our very first night on Cape Ann one year ago as the girls greeted the ocean. The second was taken on our last night one week ago as we said goodbye.
It’s the same — but different. A little brighter, a little fuller, a little more complete — just like our family. I never realized anything was missing. How blessed we are to have filled the hole before we ever realized it was there!
Our accommodations, dining, and attractions were provided by the respective businesses through Cape Ann Tourism and Rockport Chamber of Commerce, but all opinions are 100% mine.
