Toys Mom Won’t Hate: Tween Gift Guide

Tween Gift Ideas

This is a tough age to buy for and an even tougher age to be. They’re not kids, so they don’t want toys. Except they are, so they do. The trick is finding a good balance. They want video games and iPhones and so many other outlandish things you’re never going to buy, but we have a few ideas you’ll both love!

Skylanders Swap Forcegiveaway!

This is the hot toy for tweens right now — it was top of the list for our girls and boys this year. The newest Skylanders game gives kids endless options by allowing them to mix pieces to create new characters. This gives them a video game they’ll love plus real and actual toys they’ll still play with.

Printed Duct Tape

If this sounds like an odd choice, you’re new to tweens. They love the idea of turning everything they own into a custom-designed piece. That pink chair they’ve had for years can be cool again with a little update from mustache duck tape. It’s great for decorating lockers, adding trim to bedrooms, covering notebooks, and more.

Just Dance 2014

All they really want to do is play video games, but moms want to keep kids active and healthy. Enter Just Dance — it’s long been a favorite for both kids and parents. The newest game is no exception. Just Dance 2014 has added an on-stage mode for your little performers to get their groove on, sing, and feature their siblings as back-up dancers. Serious fun for the whole family!

Nerf Toys

Now that they’re a little older, Nerf can be fun and engaging with less potential for shooting out the television. I know this sounds like something moms would hate, but we love to see kids interacting, releasing energy, and getting creative with Nerf wars. Our boys and girls have been loving Nerf for years, but they’re specifically targeting girls with the new Rebelle line.

Skullcandy earbuds

Between the iPod, the DS, and any other contraption they have to make noise, headphones are a necessity. It helps them keep their music out of my ears, and Skullcandy is a line kids love. I know, I know — skulls. But, the tweens love them, and I just let it go because this fun, trendy accessory is a much better alternative to the $200 headphones that could top the list.
